Lotus

STATEMENT

The theme of human creation and the subtle energies connected to human existence has always been at the core of my artistic exploration. In the course of my research, I unexpectedly encountered the lotus flower. As I delved into its symbolic and spiritual significance across various ancient civilizations, I found myself deeply drawn to it. Given my long standing fascination with mythology, the lotus emerged as more than just a visual element. It became a powerful emblem that opened new dimensions in my creative journey and deepened my understanding of the human connection with the sacred and the eternity.

This is the main topic of my new collection. “ The lotus as the symbol of woman “ in ancient cultures and religions from a long time till today.

The symbol of purity and nobility
Lotus is an aquatic flower with a rich background in history. The way a lotus emerges from the mud without stains, motivates the idea of viewing the lotus as a symbol of woman, sacred and purity

The daughter of Zoroaster and Anahita( Iranian goddess)
In ancient Iranian beliefs, followers of the Mithraic faith believed that Mithra's mother ( Anahita, the goddess of waters) became pregnant after coming into contact with the seed of Zarathustra, which was preserved in water. This seed was kept inside a lotus flower floating on Lake Hamun. After bathing in this sacred water, Mithra's mother conceived, and Mithra was born from the bud of a lotus flower. This is why in symbolic imagery, Mithra’s birth is often depicted emerging from a lotus or water lily.

In Buddhist mythology, the lotus flower represents purity, rebirth and the journey toward spiritual enlightenment. Although it grows in muddy water, the lotus remains clean and beautiful, reflecting the idea that one can rise above pain, desire and ignorance. Buddha is often depicted seated or standing on a fully bloomed lotus, symbolizing his spiritual awakening and detachment from worldly suffering. The stages of the lotus flower’s growth from bud to full bloom are also seen as a metaphor for the stages of a soul’s progress toward enlightenment.

  • Queen Isis
"Queen Isis" the divine mother of ancient Egypt, was often associated with the lotus flower. Just as the lotus blossoms from the dark waters, Isis, by reviving her husband Osiris and nurturing their son Horus, demonstrated her power to grant life and hope to the world, showing that life rises out of darkness."
